sometimes i wish i were a ranch hand
I don't actually know anything about that life, but boy do I romanticize it. Probably because of the contrast to my own life, and in my daydreams I see all of my problems going away with this change. Driving a truck on unpaved roads, herding cattle on horseback, operating farm equipment - doesn't sound too bad to me.
But I guess this isn't really about ranching. It's about yearning for a simpler and (potentially) more fulfilling life.
For now, I cope by living vicariously through outdoor camping YouTubers. Outdoor Boys and Madison Clysdale have been some longtime favorites of mine. In addition to camping, both have made videos about their off-grid homesteads, which I hope to have at some point. I doubt I'd like living off-grid for extended periods, but it would be a nice to have a property that's always available to me to build stuff, hike, and get away from the noise.
